Anson County is located in southern North Carolina, abutting the South Carolina border. As of 2000, the population was 25,275. Its county seat is Wadesboro. The county was formed in 1750 from Bladen County. It was named for Baron Anson, a British admiral, who circumnavigated the globe from 1740 to 1744.
