The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' divisions have a number of responsibilities. These include regulation and service in areas covering agronomy; animal health; crop and livestock statistics and agricultural economic analysis; USDA commodity distribution; state farm operations; agricultural marketing and promotion; international agricultural crop and livestock marketing; operation of the North Carolina State Fair, North Carolina Mountain State Fair, and state farmers markets; research station operations; seed and fertilizer inspection; agricultural environmental issues and agricultural legislation. Additionally, the department oversees weights and measures; gas and oil inspection; food, drug and cosmetic testing for purity; nursery and plant pest eradication activities and regulation of the structural pest control industry.
