The North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety was created in 1977 to protect North Carolinians. Consisting of nine divisions, it employs over 3,000 officials, mostly in law enforcement. In addition to providing emergrency response during diasasters and issuing Amber and Sivler alerts for missing persons, the Department is responsible for enforcing the lottery, acohol, drug, and traffic laws of the State of North Carolina.
