Dept of Insurance

The North Carolina Department of Insurance, created in 1899, contains 20 divisions and roughly 400 employees. The Department is responsible for licsensing and overseeing the insurance industry in the State, obtaining insurance for state-owned property, educating consumers about different insurance products, and handling consumer complaints. In addition, the Office of the State Fire Marshal is housed within this Department.
