The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), which works with with nine Regional Education Service Alliances as well as with the state's 115 local education agencies, is the organization charged with implementing the State Board of Education's policies and procedures and the State's public school laws. Administering federal and state funds totaling approximately $7 billion, the Department iicenses the approximately 100,000 teachers and administrators serving in public schools.
in addition, NCDPI has over 500 employees who serve local public school districts and schools through instruction, accountability, and teacher and administrator preparation and licensing, as well as considers which subjects and course content that should be taught in North Carolina public schools and develops a plan to assess sucess of these schools.
